As 2024 draws to a close, it’s been an eventful year for netball. The Netball Superleague unveiled exciting changes for the upcoming season, though it also marked the bittersweet farewell of some well-known teams, and England celebrated a standout victory over New Zealand in the Taini Jamison Series. Capping off the year, the Vitality Roses climbed to 2nd place in the world rankings. We’re eager to see what 2025 holds for the sport.
The Netball Superleague 2.0
A rebranded and revitalised version of the UK’s premier netball competition, set to debut in 2025. Designed to enhance the league’s competitiveness, commercial appeal, and fan engagement, this new era introduces two exciting new teams: the Birmingham Panthers, led by former Severn Stars Head Coach Jo Trip, and Nottingham Forest, coached by former Vitality Rose, Chelsea Pitman. A significant portion of matches will take place in larger arenas to welcome more fans and enhance the matchday experience, alongside increased live coverage for TV audiences. The transformation into NSL 2.0 marks a pivotal moment for the sport, elevating its profile and appeal both in the UK and on the global stage.
Netball Nations Cup
The first international netball tournament for 2025 sees England face off against three African nations—South Africa, Uganda, and Malawi—in the highly anticipated Nations Cup, a competition that promises thrilling matches as these teams showcase their skills in a round-robin format followed by an intense final showdown to crown the champion.
The Netball Super Cup
An innovative, one-day tournament introduced as part of the Netball Super League’s relaunch in 2025. Scheduled for Saturday, 8th March 2025, at the Utilita Arena Sheffield, this event marks the commencement of the NSL season, featuring all eight participating teams in a dynamic and engaging format. The Netball Super Cup offers fans a full day of netball action, featuring 15 matches, in-venue entertainment, and concourse activities, providing an immersive experience for all netball fans.
Netball World Youth Cup
The 2025 Netball World Youth Cup is the premier international competition for netball players under 21, scheduled to take place in Gibraltar from September 19 to 28, 2025. This event marks a significant return, as the previous edition planned for 2021 was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The competition will feature 20 teams from around the globe, including England, New Zealand, Australia and Jamaica. The NWYC serves as a crucial platform for emerging netball talent, offering young athletes the opportunity to compete internationally and gain invaluable experience.
Florida Netball Festival
Organised by England Netball in partnership with Rayburn Tours, this event offers players and coaches a unique opportunity to enhance their skills in the lively and dynamic setting of Florida. This tour offers netball players and coaches an unparalleled opportunity to refine their skills, connect with industry professionals, and grow both personally and professionally in an exceptional environment. Players can improve techniques like footwork and shooting, while coaches gain insights from experts to elevate their coaching abilities. The tour runs from the 29th to the 31st October.
